Alexander Noke took advantage of sunny conditions at Fisherwick Lakes in Lichfield to catch this rare brace of 3lb crucians.

“With the sun shining, I spotted some cruising up in the water, so I started feeding a few 4mm pellets," he told us.

"Instantly they showed an interest, so I set up a waggler and some slow-sinking breadflake.

“I then adjusted the depth until it was at the crucians’ level. They were just a foot below the surface, and I had two fish, weighing 3lb 3oz and 3lb exactly, rise and take the bread.

"It’s not the typical way to catch crucians, but after seeing them take pellets up in the water I wasn’t surprised to see them engulf the hookbait!”
