Slow take produces HEAVY fish

Slow take produces HEAVY fish

BARBEL are famed for the aggressive bites they give, but that wasn’t the case with this 16lb 9oz stunner from the Hampshire Avon.

The fish was landed by Ringwood angler Stewart Rogers, and it gave him an incredibly slow take, but as soon as Stewart picked the rod up he knew he was into something heavy.

It smashes his PB, and was caught on a 20mm glugged krill boilie, fished alongside a small bag of crumb over a scattering of pellets and boilies.

Stewart recently turned his attention to rivers after years of fishing for carp. His target for the season was a double-figure barbel, and after having already landed a few 12-pounders earlier this year, he’s certainly achieved his goal!
