Soft pellet fools biggest rudd of the season!

AFTER setting his sights on catching a big rudd this spring, Kent gamekeeper Aaron Marguet accomplished his mission with this 3lb 2oz personal best.

It’s the largest rudd reported so far this season and was caught on a warm afternoon from a ‘tap clear’ and weedy stillwater.

Knowing that the fish were wary, Aaron opted to use a delicate, see-through Drennan Crystal Dibber pole float and a soft pellet hookbait on a size 14 hook. By overcasting the target area before drawing his rig back into the zone, and staying well back from the water’s edge, he was able to avoid spooking the shoal, and the three-pounder engulfed his hookbait without hesitation.
