Rudd are synonymous with bright sunny days, but they’re also well worth targeting after dark, as Tim Dabrowa proved with this 3lb 1oz specimen from a Cambridgeshire river.

He’d been feeding a swim for several hours before sunset to try and draw in a few better fish. Once they arrived, he cast a piece of floating bread out alongside a small controller float, and attached a Starlight to help with bite indication.

As the small neon light slid away, Tim hooked into the fish, and a tense fight followed in the heavily- weeded river before he was able to net his hard-earned prize.
