Specimen rudd landed on popular match fishing method

Although originally developed by the match angling fraternity, flatbed Method feeders have become a very useful tool in the tactical armoury of big-fish hunters – and Josh Marchant showed exactly why last week when he caught this 3lb 3oz rudd using one.

He was fishing on a carp syndicate water in Cambridgeshire – without doubt one of the UK’s rudd hotspots – where he decided to stick out an additional rod for the venue’s big rudd.

As many anglers do when using the Method, Josh opted for a small 8mm boilie hookbait, which he packed into the frame of the feeder using a mixture of groundbait and pellets.

But rather than using standard, off-the-shelf groundbait and pellets, Josh opted for a special mix that his sponsor makes for him, which he’s keeping secret! He cast this to a soft area of the lakebed, where there was a bit of dead weed and silt, and it wasn’t long before he connected with this gloriously-coloured fish.
