There are few barbel fisheries with a big-fish reputation as impressive as Gunthorpe on the River Trent, a venue where PBs are shattered every year.

That was the case for Nottinghamshire angler James O'Reilly last week, who caught this powerful 17lb 7oz fish from the prolific stretch.

After 'balling in' pellets, James fished a feeder over the top with a boilie hookbait.

He cast out at midday, and just 15 minutes later he hooked what he knew was a big fish by the way it hugged the riverbed during the 15-minute fight that followed.

He said drawing it over the net was a 'truly unforgettable moment'.
