Dave Robinson has had an incredible season. He has landed a number of big fish of different species, and while he could have taken his foot off the pedal, he maintained his effort right up until the final few hours of the season and was dually rewarded with this impressive barbel!

“I’d had a slow start to 2025 on the River Lea, with just one bite to show for my efforts. So, before the season ended, I decided to try a shallow run, hoping for one last chance of a barbel."

“No more than 10 minutes after casting out a small cube of meat, the lead dislodged, and my line fell slack. Oddly, there was nothing on the end, but something had clearly shifted the lead, and it wasn’t the current."

“I repositioned the rod and moments later hooked a fish that surged upstream and caught me off guard with its power."

“After a heart-pounding battle, I managed to glide a giant barbel into the net. It weighed 18lb 2oz. I couldn’t believe how plump it was!"

“I returned the next morning, eager to repeat the process and, as dawn was breaking, the rod flew away again."

“After a hectic fight, I managed to land another Lea giant, this one weighing 17lb 10oz."

“It was the perfect end to my season on a river that is truly in its prime right now.”
