Superb ide banked on bread

A recent change in tactics on his local syndicate water paid off in magnificent style for Jay Elliot when he banked a monstrous ide, weighing a whopping 7lb 13oz.

With an afternoon spare, Jay opted to target his local water with his float rod and trusty bread tactics, all of which proved too enticing, leading to the downfall of the magnificent fish.

"Armed with my waggler rod and the last few slices of Hovis Bread from home, I settled in a swim and began fishing a rod length out, whilst introducing small quantities of groundbait and liquidised bread," he said.

For his hookbait, Jay uses a special technique to keep the bread on the hook and make it more attractive to the fish:

"I get 2 slices, with the crusts removed, and place them together before microwaving for 15 seconds. Gentle pressure applied with rolling pin and they are ready to punch desired size, bread pellets that hook and swell superbly." Jay explained.

"40 minutes in and the float started dancing before it disappeared, a firm strike and I was connected to a good fish."

"I knew with the action of the rod it was one of the better resident chub or ide and when it broke the surface all was revealed...a big old Ide, happy days and another target achieved," Jay remarked.
