Fishing is great for two reasons, you can sit beside the bank with your friends and have a great social being one and the second is that every now and again, no matter how experienced you are or how much time you've spent on the bank, it has the power to completely surprise you!

Sometimes, you get to combine the two things, and it culminates in a perfect fishing session, which is exactly what Thomas Sherwood and his good friend Blake Fleming experienced while pike fishing on Lake Windermere.

“We were fishing for pike on a recent session after being tipped off by local fishing guide Warren Fleming about an area of the lake that had been quite prolific over the past few weeks,” Thomas told us.

“I had three rods out, all baited with whole mackerel deadbaits, which I presented on a running ledger rig in around 25 feet of water.”

“The day started off well, I landed a couple of pike around double figures, when I got an interesting bite that rattled my bobbin around.”

“When I picked up the rod, the fish shot off and completely flat-rodded me. I couldn’t stop it.”

“My adrenaline was pumping. I wasn’t sure what I had hooked and I just assumed it was a huge pike, but after playing the fish for a while, a massive silver flank rose to the surface. At first, we thought it might be a large salmon.”

“It was later confirmed that the fish was probably a sea trout. We quickly unhooked the fish of a lifetime, it looked amazing and I still can’t believe I caught it!”

“After returning the fish, the atmosphere for the rest of the session was electric, we are still talking about it now! It was the last species I expected to hook that day!”

WHY NOT TRY ONE OF THESE GREAT VENUES WHERE YOU AREN'T SURE WHAT YOU MIGHT HOOK?
