This year has been extraordinary for big fish captures, with five British records already shattered. These include remarkable catches of an eel, catfish, crucian, roach and pike. It’s safe to say that this year has been an unforgettable year for giant fish captures.
When we surveyed anglers on our Facebook page about which British Record was most likely to fall next and where from, the consensus was clear: the barbel record from the River Trent. They were almost proved right when angler James Crosby landed this enormous 22lb 1oz barbel, except he landed it from the in-form Kings Weir Fishery on the River Lea.
This massive barbel surpasses Colin Smithson's previous record of 21lb 2oz, set in 2019 on the River Rother and with it being so early in the season, who knows how big this fish could potentially be in the next few months.
