The British Record roach has been banked again

Ashley Bresnan had a session to remember when he caught a roach that tipped the scales to 4lb 2oz, the very same fish banked by Dai Gribble, that is now the certified British Record.

Fishing at Oxfordshire's Linear Fisheries, Ashley was fishing for carp using solid bag tactics, and whilst the session was productive, it was the roach he caught, one ounce under the British record that made the session memorable.

"After arriving at a busy Brasenose One at Linear Fisheries, I set up on one of my favourite pegs, No. 44," Ashley told us.

"At 6am, I was woken by a single beep on my right-hand rod. Since I was carp fishing, I thought it was just a liner, but after another beep, I realised there was a fish attached."

Ashley was fishing a solid bag on a bar at around 30 yards range, a rig he has utmost confidence in and has caught him a lot of big carp over the years.

"After netting the fish, I wasn't aware of the significance of this massive roach, as I'm only interested in catching carp," Ashley explained.

"I weighed the fish, and the scales read 4lb 2oz, which was a shock! I immediately rang Adam Mott, a good friend and bailiff at the fishery."

"He kindly came around to my swim to verify my capture and take photos and he informed that this is currently the British Record."

"To be able to say I have caught a 4lb+ roach is one of the best catches of my life, a fish I will never forget."

"I would like to thank all the staff at Linear Fisheries for always doing a fantastic job, and my fishing buddies Adam Spires and Nathan Churchill," he concluded.
