The OMC Magic Wand is out, will it revolutionise carp fishing?

Most people who go fishing will have heard of the Magic Twig, released by One More Cast (OMC) around 12 months ago. This device, when triggered by a carp picking up your rig, was designed to help hook the fish with an internal, retractable mechanism.

Due to its design and the effectiveness of its hooking potential, the Magic Twig received a lot of publicity—both positive and negative. Many anglers called for it to be banned because of its protruding arms, while others argued that it took the skill out of angling. However, supporters of the Twig, including OMC head Ali Hamidi, hailed it as a tool to help anglers catch more carp, which, at the end of the day, is why we all go fishing.

IF YOU DO LONG SESSIONS FOR CARP, YOU NEED ONE OF THE BEST FISHING BIVVIES.

The Magic Wand is an updated version of the Magic Twig, a device created to help you hook more carp. Designed around a triggering mechanism, when a fish picks up the bait and tightens the rig against the Wand, it will retract helping to pull the hook into the fishes mouth, on a similar principle to an angler striking.

The updated version now works on a button to load the spring rather than arms to make it safer and more aerodynamic for casting. The Magic wand is available in one size for now, with more expected to follow in the future.

Pros

  • Aids in the hooking of fish when using bolt rigs
  • Provides better hook holds
  • No arms to break meaning you get longer use from each wand

Cons

  • The Magic Wand can reduce your casting distance slightly

In a recent YouTube documentary, Ali had the opportunity to discuss the benefits of the Magic Twig and how the backlash he received for releasing the product had affected him.

"Why would I bring out a product that would harm the fish we love? I’m an avid animal lover, and I just want our products to help anglers catch more fish."

He added, "The abuse was completely unjustified, with people using the Twig in unrelated scenarios, trying not only to belittle an amazing product but also to paint the company as carp killers."

Despite the product being released 12 months ago, Ali revealed that he still faces criticism from anglers, bailiffs, and fishery owners who have never used the product but continue to personally attack him. Ali shared various underwater footage to prove that the Twig is no more dangerous than other angling products, especially in a scenario where the fish may trail your setup.

Listening to the criticism, OMC have now released the Magic Wand, which works on the same principal of the Twig, but it works via a button system instead of the plastic arm system, that many anglers had grievances with.

"We listen to every single comment here at OMC and I hope that the adjustments we have made will help anglers see that we are doing our best to improve on our products and aren't out to harm the carp we all love to fish for," Ali Hamidi stated.

"The Magic Twig in its original form will still be for sale as many anglers simply love the product and we have had no negative feedback from some of the most prestigious fisheries in the country about fish being harmed by anglers using it."
