As a community, we are always looking for ways to boost junior participation in the sport, as they are the future of angling. In recent times, the influx of new anglers has been diminishing every year, so any group aiming to introduce more anglers into the sport needs our support.

The Reel Rod Squad is a group set up by Jo and her husband Lee, along with their two friends Emily and Matt, with the aim of making fishing cool and encouraging more young people to get into angling.

Currently operating in Nuneaton, they are slowly expanding with volunteers from Coventry and Birmingham offering their services, with the hope of eventually going nationwide.

After putting out some information about starting the Rod Squad, Jo was overwhelmed with the support, and it has gone from strength to strength.

The group has only been established for 12 months but has already seen lots of volunteers come on board. Additionally, the founders have completed their level 2 angling coaching, enabling them to provide a much better experience for the young anglers they are meeting.

Recently, a charity day was set up by anglers Maxine Stroud and Steve Brindley to help raise money for a children's cancer charity, and it was a roaring success, with many celebrity anglers getting involved.

“It was great to see so many people getting on board with our fishing group,” Jo told us.

“Many of the kids involved in the day got to fish alongside their angling heroes, and there were so many smiling faces."

"This was our sole aim when setting up the Rod Squad, and to see it all unfolding was really special. I was even told we were making fishing cool by the kids."

"I just wanted to thank everyone for giving their time and Maver for sponsoring the top three prizes on the day.”

“If anyone wants to get their kids involved, they are more than welcome to visit our website and socials for more information: www.reelrodsquad.co.uk,” Jo added.
