It is not often you can go fishing in the UK and catch a fish in freshwater over 100lb, let alone have to battle that fish for upwards of 2 hours but that is exactly what happened to Luke Mason after hooking into Thor the catfish.
Fishing on a lake in Essex, Luke and his 11-year-old son Frank had a 36 hour session booked with the intention of fishing for the lakes stock of carp and catfish.

"Frank and I were really excited to get down to the venue. It's a place I've fished before, but I was especially looking forward to having Frank with me this time as he just loves fishing," Luke told us.
"We knew the lake contained this fish because my brother-in-law caught it when we were fishing together about a year ago, but we never expected to catch it again," he added.
"We had been fishing for around 24 hours without a bite. We were using tactics that had worked before, so we decided to remain patient and stick with our plan."
The plan worked because about three hours later, the pair received a slow but meaningful take as the line began pulling steadily from the reel...
"We got down to the rod, and I'm sure the fish didn't even know it was hooked; it just kept pulling line from the reel despite our attempts to stop it."
