Whilst carp fishing on his local lake, 16-year-old Reuben Cartwright had a pleasant surprise when he landed this impressive 4lb 5oz crucian.
Reuben was fishing a small lake in Fakenham, Norfolk, with a friend, when the fish picked up his Peperami hookbait during the hours of darkness.
It’s just 9oz off Adam Brookbanks’ 4lb 14oz British Record and, despite being landed on a heavy carp rod, Reuben revealed that the fish still put up a good scrap.
“I knew there were crucians in this lake, however I had no idea they were four-pounders!” he told us.
“The mate I was fishing with has only just got into carp fishing and that night was the first he’s ever spent on the bank. He was pretty excited by the capture, as was I – we’d never seen a crucian so big!”
IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT NIGHT FISHING, HERE IS ALL THE TACKLE YOU WILL NEED.
