This season, Adam Perna set out to surpass his long-standing personal best for perch—and he achieved it in spectacular fashion with a stunning 4lb 14oz specimen. Remarkably, this was just one of a massive brace he landed on the day with the second, slightly smaller fish, tipping the scales at an impressive 4lb 2oz.

His previous PB was a fish from the Upper Great Ouse, caught back in 2007, but this season he’s put in a bit of time targeting the species on the River Thames, a large gravel pit, and a large Midlands trout reservoir.

"I decided to try and beat my long-standing perch personal best this year. My previous record was a notable upper Ouse specimen from 2007," Adam told us.

I've put considerable effort into targeting perch on the River Thames, a large gravel pit, and even made a trip to Grafham Reservoir, catching a few decent fish up to 3lb 5oz along the way.

"On my latest trip, it finally all came together. Despite a tough day, my faithful drop-shotting tactics paid off, producing not one but two exceptional fish."

"Fishing close to shoals of baitfish, the first perch tipped the scales to an incredible 4lb 14oz!"

"That alone made for a fantastic day, but I was fortunate enough to complete the brace later with another pristine fish weighing 4lb 2oz."

"Two fish for a combined 9lb—a brace I'm unlikely to surpass anytime soon," he concluded.
