THE British Record Fish Committee have confirmed two new bests in the crucian carp and ide categories.

Julian Barnes’ crucian, caught back in April, is the British best for the species, weighing an almighty 4lb 12oz. The fish was initially reported at 4lb 14oz, but Julian’s scales were weighing slightly heavy, although that didn’t make a difference to the final result, as he still topped the previous best of 4lb 10oz.

Julian told us:

“I had the certificate and letter come through from the BRFC last week. Safe to say, I’m feeling very happy.”

In addition, Hull specimen hunter, Colin Hebb, also equalled the ide record with his 8lb 5oz fish from the River Hull in January.
