Anglers often find themselves questioning their sanity when out on the bank in depths of winter and faced with temperatures down to -5 degrees Celsius that was certainly the case for Tom Davies on a recent carp fishing trip.

Fishing on Peg 1 at Yorkshire's Ladywood Lakes, the 31-year-old had a real battle against the challenging conditions, but noticed a show at about 20-wraps range early in his session.

After finding a spot in the area with a probe lead, he cast two DNA Baits Milky Malt wafters out to the zone and fished over a bed of house pellet.

He started his trip with an awesome 36lb mirror.

"Within 24 hours, the left rod came to life and I was rewarded with a new PB," he told us.

"It was a stunning 36lb 12oz mirror and shortly after returning it the middle rod sang with what turned out to be a feisty 22lb catfish!"

Pleased with what he had caught, Tom got both rods back out on the spot and was rewarded with another bite just before packing up.

"The middle rod went again and gifted me a 36lb 2oz Yorkshire common - an unforgettable session," he said.
