The unseasonal mild temperatures switched fisheries into bagging mode over the weekend, with plenty of huge hauls banked.
Leading the way was Angling Times columnist Steve Ringer who sealed victory during the latest round of the team event at Coventry’s Meadowlands Fishery.
Drafted in as a late reserve to cover for his dad, the England international found himself on peg 60 of Lambsdown Lake.
A slow start on the feeder produced very little, but a move to the long pole helped him locate plenty of skimmers, putting 40lb of them in the net.
A switch to the margins late on was the catalyst for a hectic final hour, with Steve finding 11 big carp that once added with his skimmers, gave him a grand total of 152lb.
Over at Worcestershire’s Larford Lakes it was Przmek Solski that won the latest Golden Rod qualifier.
Drawn on peg 20 of the Specimen Lake, he used a Method feeder at range to find some enormous carp that added up to a highly impressive 223lb 3oz netful that won the day and secured him a spot in the big money final.
Further south and Hill View Lake at Dorset’s Todber Manor Fisheries didn’t disappoint, with the top three sharing over 1,200lb of carp between them.
Dave Brittain topped the field with a jaw dropping 483lb 14oz from peg 48. Second place went to Lee Woodhouse with 394lb 2oz from peg 42, while 14-year-old Alfie Rhodes completed the frame with 368lb 8oz from peg 46.
It wasn’t just commercials that were on fire either, with the River Wye in Hereford once again producing plenty of rod-bending action during the latest open match.
Fancied peg 96 stuck to Ant Taylor’s hand at the draw and he made no mistake, using floatfished meatfor an immense 172lb haul of chub and barbel.
