Buy a raffle ticket costing just £3.99 and you could end up walking home with the biggest prize on offer in the UK matchfishing scene.
The Ultimate Fishing Competition (UFC) is returning this year, but the stakes are higher than ever, with the previous £30k top prize being doubled to £60k. The runners-up have much to play for too, with £10k going to the angler in second place, £5k for third, £2k for fourth, plus four £1k section prizes. And, with just 20 places in the final on May 25 (bank holiday) at Cob House Lakes, almost half of the field are in with a chance of lining their pockets handsomely!
Launched in 2024, the event was created by the team at Capital Catch Competitions, and spearheaded by big-carp angler Mark Pitchers.
“We created this purely to give ‘everyday anglers’ the chance of winning big prizes and experience the atmosphere of fishing a big final,” he told us.
“We won’t make a penny – all the revenue we take covers prize money and venue costs. In last year’s final it was pretty much all club anglers, apart from one lad who had never fished a match before!”
Tickets will be released in two batches of 10, the first from March 1-15 and the second from March 15-29. In each, there will be five ‘instant wins’, while the remaining winning tickets will be selected in a live draw held on Facebook.
“Alongside the main final, we’ll be doing a junior event for under 16s which will be free to enter and won’t be decided by a raffle,” Mark added.
“Instead, we want applicants to fill out a form, a bit like a CV, and explain why they’d like to be there. Although there won’t be cash prizes for the youngsters, there will be top-level poles, seatboxes and vouchers up for grabs. I’m absolutely buzzing for it!”
