Big crucian carp are incredibly rare creatures, but there are a few venues around the country that hold good stocks of the species to impressive sizes. One such venue is Johnsons Lake, where Lee Fisher recently caught this amazing specimen.

"For the past three years I’ve fished Harris Lake on the Marsh Farm complex in Surrey, catching a few crucians up to 2lb 14oz," he told us.

“This year, though, I decided to join Godalming AC so I could fish Johnsons Lake next door, a water that holds the biggest crucians in the land.

“On my first session I had five wonderful crucians all over the 3lb mark, including this four-pounder.

“A 4mm wafter pellet was the winning hookbait, fished alongside a Method feeder loaded with scalded 2mm pellets.

“I’ll be going back!”
