It's not every session that you manage to catch your target fish and also achieve a new PB of a completely different species, but that's what happened to Hannah Truscott on a recent session.
Fishing with her partner Luke, the pair were targeting barbel and zander on a local river and were successful in landing both species. However, it was the surprise chub that stole the show, weighing 6lb 8oz which also made it a new PB.

"With the conditions looking good, we decided to have an evening session, fishing into the dark to target zanderand barbel," Hannah told us.
"We started by introducing hemp and casters into the swim, to try and get some feeding and let them gain some confidence."
"The casters are great for the bigger fish, but they also draw in plenty of small silverfish which, in turn, help bring the zander in."
"Using small roach deadbaits, we managed to catch a couple of lovely zander to begin the session, before we got the barbel rods ready and cast in."
"First cast, I had a savage bite using my faithful 6mm Vortex Baits Insecto Morph Pellet hookbaits, and after a swift but powerful fight, we had a barbel in the net," Hannah added.

"The next hour went by without any action, but we kept feeding the swim and were rewarded with another bite."
"I thought the fish was another barbel as it powered off in the flow, giving a really good account of itself."
"However, when it popped up, it was an enormous chub which really took me by surprise, and we managed to get it in the net despite the panic."
