Rods are constantly evolving, and we have reached the stage where a quality build, attainable at an affordable price, can allow us to have more than just the one Pellet Waggler model in our armoury. All of which brings me nicely on to the subject of this review – Nytro’s 10ft Impax commercial pellet waggler rod.
The full Nytro Impax range consists of five models – feeder rods of 9ft, 10ft and 11ft, and two pellet wagglers, these being 10ft (on test) and 11ft.
The 10ft Impax, like all its stablemates, is a two-sectioned, all-carbon affair. Being a float rod, it’s fitted with 11 stand-off anodised and lined single and double leg guides and a secure lock-down reel seat.
The reduced-length 22ins cork and EVA handle is very much a Goldilocks length (just right) for me. With a pellet waggler rod, you need to be able to manoeuvre it around your body quickly and easily.
Hands up, if I’m totally honest I am more of a fan of 11ft pellet waggler rods, as I believe they are the optimum length for easier casting. But I have to say the 10ft Impax has started me thinking about a whole new approach to what I should be carrying in my holdall when turning up on a commercial venue this summer.
It’s light, really light in fact. I’m not the biggest or strongest of chaps, but it didn’t faze me for a moment to hold it single- handed without having to drop it on a rest or tuck its handle between my backside and my seatbox. It also cast a 6g pellet waggler a fair old distance without any problem. Its line pick-up speed was particularly impressive, especially considering how little it costs.
As I said earlier, we are at the stage in terms of price and build quality where we can consider multiple rod and reel set-ups for venues that suit them perfectly. And this rod is a worthy extra addition to any angler’s holdall.
